John Cena said he still wants to marry ex-fiancée Nikki Bella and her response was pretty awkward

This breakup is becoming a little bit messier every week.

A MONTH AGO today, we all learned that John Cena and Nikki Bella ended their engagement.

Had they remained together, the pair would have gotten married on the 5th of May. They were together for six years, and John proposed to Nikki at Wrestlemania 33 both on live television and in front of a crowd of 75,000 fans.

Some people love public proposals. Others think that they’re a bit of a red flag. Either way, the pair remained together for a year after their engagement.

During an appearance on The Today Show, John Cena had a chat about his breakup with hosts Kathie Lee and Hoda.

John Cena didn’t hold back when talking about his relationship. Hoda Kotb asked him how he was doing, and he said:

I don’t wanna ruin the viewers morning by giving them a bowl of sadness soup… It’s been incredibly reflective, which is amazing. But, it’s very difficult. I had my heart broken out of nowhere – or, for me, it was out of nowhere. Anyone who has experienced that knows that it comes with a series of bad feelings.

Cena said that for anyone speculating about what he’s doing with his life now:

I still love Nicole. I still would love to marry Nicole. I still would love to have a family with Nicole.

Maybe it’s not a great idea for guests to drink wine first thing in the morning on a chat show.

The 41-year-old wrestler explained why he had been seen out in public, and insisted that he “was not out enjoying the single life”.

I was meant to be married and having a honeymoon over these two weeks. It’s the first time in fifteen years that I’ve taken a vacation. I’m in my house alone, surrounded by these emotionally strong memories. Every day from six to nine, I get out of the house and talk to strangers as social interaction. There’s a lot of pictures of me where it’s like “Hey, I’m here with this person.” I don’t want anybody else. I love Nicole. I’m really trying to support her.

For the rest of the interview, which was almost six minutes long, he continues to talk about how much he wants to have children with Nikki. Fair enough, he’s sad about the breakup.

However, it’s just a *tad* awkward to go on TV and talk about how much you want to get back with someone for six minutes straight. It puts some very unnecessary pressure on the other party involved in the breakup.

To make things even more awkward, a presenter from Extra TV decided to confront Nikki Bella and her sister Brie about John’s persistence.

The presenter told Nikki, “He said ‘I love her, I want to be with her’…” Talk about putting someone on the spot. Nikki just said “Wow… Well, I’m speechless. Yeah. That’s crazy.” The glance she gives her sister Brie says it all, really.

Nikki continued:

I have hope. I just want John and I to live happily ever after – whether it’s together or separate. The day I say my vows, I wanna say them once and I want to fully mean them. So, that’s what made me hesitant. Am I ready to say these vows?

Since Nikki spoke to Extra TV, it has been revealed through her reality TV show Total Bellas (which featured John Cena, obviously) that she was very lonely over the course of her relationship with John Cena.

I’m alone in these big beautiful homes which are like “Gosh, these homes are unreal.” But to be honest, since we’ve gotten engaged, John and I have probably shared our bed together maybe 30 days total out of like six months. Hearing Brie and Lauren and JJ and Bryan talk about their family stuff and their kids – it makes it just sink in a little bit more of how lonely it will be, and how lonely it gets.
